House Bill 1201: State Government—Maryland Reparations Commission

Written testimony addresses the legacy of slavery in the state of Maryland, the legacy of slavery in the United States, and the importance of formalizing a reparations package for descendants of enslaved Black Americans. ~ David M. Rubenstein Fellow at The Brookings Institution and Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Maryland and the Executive Director of the Lab for Applied Social Science Research (LASSR).



First City to Pay Black's Reparations - Evanston Illinois

Evanston Illinois, became the first U.S. city to make reparations available to its Black residents for past discrimination and the lingering effects of slavery. In doing so, this college town of 74,000 accomplished something that a generation of civil rights activists had not managed to elevate beyond a legislative pipe dream.
